THE WOODY BEAR APPEAL

Woody’s Picnic raised nearly £350 for charity

Woody Bear’s Picnic in the Park on Saturday 9th July welcomed 80 children and their families, who all enjoyed a fun-filled day of animal adventures at Stover Park while raising nearly £350 for charity.

Dartmoor Zoo and Devon adoption charity Families for Children will each receive £175 to help them continue their work with children and animals in the area.

The children enjoyed a ‘Touch and Tell’ session with animals from Dartmoor Zoo and their keepers; got up close and personal with birds from the Devon Birds of Prey Centre; hunted for bugs in the natural habitat of the park with the Stover rangers; touched and smelled different herbs at a Herb Planting Workshop with L-Amour Botanique; had their faces painted as pirates, super heroes and their favourite animals and munched on a large buffet picnic, which included pizzas and a Crazy Cooking catering van along with wraps and buns, sweets, crisps, cupcakes, fruit, vegetables and other treats and goodies, as well as a cream tea for the adults supplied by The Grand Hotel.

Sarah Thomas, charity organiser at Wood’s Estate Agents and Auctioneers, said: “The day was brilliant, everyone had loads of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the buffet picnic while talking about their day and sharing tales of their animal adventures. We’re pleased that so many children came along, that it didn’t rain and to have raised £350 for the charities. We would like to say a big thank you to all of the local businesses that supported us with generous donations to help make the day extra special for the children.

As well as Stover Park, the Birds of Prey Centre, Dartmoor Zoo, L-Amour Botanique, Crazy Cooking and The Grand Hotel, we received generous donations and help from the Pizza Cafe in Newton Abbot, Seabrook Crisps, Lush Buns, Wicked Wraps & Fab Faces, Riverford Organic Veg and Get Cupcaked as well as Gifts & Gallery, Presence Gift Shop, the Co-op, The Silent Whistle pub and the Fruit & Vegetable Shop all in Ashburton, the Co-op in Kingsteignton, Doves Farm in Berkshire, Devon Life, Sainsbury’s in Paignton, Fizzy Lips, Happy Days Nursery, Pixi Photos, Fudge Kitchen, Westcountry Nannies and Vitabiotics Ltd – for which we are extremely grateful.”

Wood’s, team estate agent with six local offices, has won awards for its charity fundraising activities. Woody Bear is Wood’s life-size charity figurehead, who gets involved in capers and adventures and regularly hosts and attends events for local charities.
